Enterprise agents, Hosted PBX vendors, system integrators and resellers share one thing in common: all are expanding into hosted unified communications ( UC) offerings, according to a report released by Infonetics Research, “VoIP and UC Services and Subscribers Market Share and Forecast.”
Within the wide range of UC offerings, one area shows the most growth, however. Hosted PBX takes the lead as the largest growing segment of the rapidly expanding VoIP market. Hosted PBX, a private branch exchange phone system that’s delivered as a hosted service, grants businesses more versatility at a more affordable price than an on-premise PBX system. In turn, this frees the company up to concentrate on customer satisfaction and the increased profits that result from such a focus. These benefits seem to be spurring a strong surge in the spending on such solutions.
In fact, as stated in the report, roughly 15 to 20 percent of all new IP PBX lines sold are part of a managed service or outsourced contract, making managed hosted PBX the largest segment of business VoIP services.
Other chief findings from the report include:
- The unified communications market—encompassing instant messaging, video conferencing, web conferencing, voicemail and presence features—is expected to grow to a cumulative $377 billion
- Over the next five years, from 2012 -16, the increase in UC spending will be primarily driven by SIP trunking and hosted VoIP services
- SIP trunking revenue grew 23 percent in the first half of 2012 compared to the second half of 2011, led by strong activity in North America
